![]() ![]() Leah in the book is portrayed as this self-conscious plus sized girl that’s sarcastic and has a tenancy to bottle up her feelings and I didn’t get that in the movie. ![]() ![]() The plus-sized representation was amazing, another thing that they completely missed in the movie considering she was skinny as a rake. Leah’s character in the book is so on pointe. Let’s talk about Leah and how annoyed I was with her character in the movie. I didn’t see him as Olly from Everything, Everything or Ryder from Melissa and Joey, He was Simon and I think that’s a testament to the actor and his skills. He really made me believe that he was Simon. I think his acting and his uncanny ability to bring the story to life is second to none. I think Nick Robinson was a fantastic choice for Simon. The way that he talks to Blue in the emails is different to the way that he speaks to his friends and his family which creates a contrast between the life he has which everyone knows about and the life he has which he hides which is striking. I’ve never had a secret that deep before but I can’t imagine the weight that character must be under and that really comes across in the way that Simon holds himself and the way that he responds with other characters. The character is so afraid of what other people think that he’s willing to allow himself to be blackmailed to keep his secret. Simon explains in his first email to Blue that he feels like his life is perfect other than the fact that he’s Nick Robinson as Simon Spier Whilst I’ll admit the story was a little slow going at the beginning I really connected with the story once the plot really kicked in. He is quite literally a beautiful little beacon of hope and I adore his story. I really commend everyone involved in the film because the film was almost on the same level as the book and coming from someone like me who always puts the book above the film in my estimation that’s a huge deal. Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda has such a beautiful message, and I think it’s really important that they managed to get the same message across in the movie because the vast majority of the people that went to see the movie hadn’t read the book beforehand, which to me is a real shame because the book is phenomenal. So I figured that I’d give you a review of both the book and the film at the same time. A few weeks later in April, I watched the film and I equally fell in love with that. If you follow my Goodreads then you’ll know that I read Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda in March and completely fell in love with it. “I’m so sick of straight people who can’t get their shit together” Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out-without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never metīook Cover for Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon’s junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing, will be compromised. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical.
